ILWU (Canada) Members Vote in Favour of a StrikeTuesday, June 13, 2023

Dear Customer,
Please note that the ILWU, the union representing over 7,000 longshore workers and dock foreman on the Canadian west coast have voted 99.24 per cent in favour of strike action.
The union and the British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) have been negotiating a new collective agreement with the assistance of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service team since the expiry of their previous agreement end of March.
The ILWU will not be in a legal strike position before June 21st. Additionally, both parties have agreed that no 72-hour strike or lockout notice will be filed before June 21. As such, the earliest that either party could exercise the right to strike, or lockout is 12:01am on June 24th.
A strike would likely result in disruption and delays to cargo handling operations at the terminals and as such we recommend that all customers take the same into consideration when planning their cargo movement in the weeks ahead.
We continue to monitor the situation and will provide further updates as new information is received.
Sincerely,
HENSALL GLOBAL LOGISTICS |
