ILWU Strike - Update #9Monday, July 31, 2023

||
Dear Customer,
The following includes information from a recent statement by Minister O’Regan as well as articles published by The Canadian Press.
On Friday July 28, the membership of the ILWU Canada voted to reject the tentative agreement with the BCMEA. This came after the proposed Terms of Settlement by the federal mediator were both accepted by the ILWU Canada bargaining team and recommended to the membership for ratification by the ILWU Canada Longshore Caucus.
As a result, on Saturday July 29, Labour Minister Seamus O’Regan said that binding arbitration or an imposed agreement could be coming to end the extended job action that has been impacting Canada’s West Coast ports.
Then late Sunday July 30 the ILWU Canada and the BCMEA issued a joint statement saying that a deal has been reached with help from the Canada Industrial Relations Board. The statement offers no details on the new deal but says both sides are encouraging members to ratify the agreement.
We continue to monitor developments and will provide further updates as new information is made available.
Sincerely,
