Dear Customer,
Please find notice issued to the industry from CN Rail yesterday:
CN has been advised by the Port of Montreal (POM) that it anticipates labour actions that are expected to materially impact their operations on or about March 21st 2021. POM has advised its users that the situation “could cause major delays in the supply chain”. The Port has further advised that numerous businesses were diverting cargo and making alternative arrangements to alleviate these operational impacts. CN has no option but to implement its own measures to protect the integrity of the supply chain. CN will be adjusting capacity to control the in gates of export traffic at any origin ramp that has a transit time of 72 hours or longer to the Port of Montreal.
In the interim, the Montreal Port Authority has advised that it continues to hope that the dockworkers' union CUPE 375 and the Maritime Employers Association (MEA) will reach an agreement to avoid a new work stoppage before the end of the truce between the employer and the union, scheduled for March 21 at 6:59 a.m.
Please note that we have seen a dramatic reduction in the provision of CN reservations for ingate of export container traffic. This is very much in alignment with the initiative detailed above.
It is expected that conditions will continue to deteriorate in the coming days. Customers should expect disruption to planned cargo.
Hensall Global will continue to do our best to keep you apprised of new developments as they are communicated to the industry.
Sincerely,
HENSALL GLOBAL LOGISTICS |
