Canadian Rail Strike Update

Dear Customer,

Please note that further to previous advisory, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has ordered the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC) employees to resume their duties.

Although the government directive was challenged by the TCRC over the weekend, the union has since confirmed it will comply with the decision.

As such, with the reinstatement of labour both CN and CPKC are actively working their restart plans for the safe and orderly resumption of rail service across Canada.

The carriers have withdrawn the embargo’s previously communicated.

At current it does appear that CN may be restricting the availability of reservations to manage ingate volumes.

CP has communicated the following gate restrictions:

  • Terminal Operational Hours: Effective Monday, 26 August 2024, and until further advised, the below listed Terminals will operate at reduced gate hours:

  • Vaughan / Bensenville / Schiller – 06:00-22:00 local time.

  • Winnipeg / Regina / Calgary / Edmonton / Vancouver / Minneapolis / Detroit – 0600-1800 local time.

  • Lachine / Saint John – regular hours of operation.

  • VGN – Empty Depot
  • As of 19:00 EST Thursday, 22 August, Vaughan Terminal will close the gates for all marine empties (applies to empties without billing and pregate billed empties).

We understand that the CIRB will be convening a case management meeting with the parties Thurs., Aug. 29th, to discuss the imposition of final binding interest arbitration.

In the interim, the existing collective agreements between the companies and unions remain in force.

Please reach out to your Hensall Global representative should you have any questions or file specific inquiries.

Sincerely,

HENSALL GLOBAL LOGISTICS
