Dear Customer,

CN has issued the following update to the industry:

“Further to our previous update regarding the Canadian Ports Labour Disruption, the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has mandated the resumption of operations at all BC ports.

Once CIRB makes a ruling on Port of Montreal, we will provide a separate advisory on our East Coast plan.

As the BC ports resume operations, CN has begun moving staged trains towards the West Coast ports, and loading existing inland terminal inventory. Our priorities are as follows:

  • Protect all traffic already on rail and staged at various locations across the network heading to the BC ports based on individual Port start up plans.

  • Protect all export-loaded traffic currently at CN ramps, and open capacity based on Port productivity and traffic balance.

  • Protect all empty containers currently at CN ramps.

  • Inland gate export capacity to the ports will be reviewed and made available in 48-hour windows. This will be communicated to the steamship lines in the next few days, based on current ground count at the inland terminals, overall pipeline to the ports, and port productivity over the next 48 hours.

To ensure safe and efficient operations at our inland terminals, we encourage every customer (BCO, NVO and Dray company) to focus on draying imports out of CN inland terminals within the free time period. CN has a large ground count of Toronto and Montreal destined cargo at the impacted Ports. We assume these loads are long overdue and much needed after this extended disruption. CN will review other measures to protect fluidity and safety in our terminals if imports are not retrieved in a timely manner.”

Please be guided accordingly.

Sincerely,
