Labour Update - ILWU West Coast Ports

Dear Customer,

The Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) has communicated their decision regarding the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (ILWU) Local 514 pay and manning proposal.

The British Columbia Maritime Employers Association (BCMEA) had challenged the proposal claiming it was illegal and in bad faith.

The CIRB rendered their decision, stating that it has found that the ILWU has been bargaining in bad faith.

With the CIRB decision complete, both parties are in position to issue a 72-hour notice of strike or lockout.

The ILWU had secured strike mandate in early September with members voting 96% in favour of strike.  The ILWU strike mandate will expire on November 2nd.

You can read the BCMEA update here.

We continue to monitor the situation and will provide further update as new information becomes available.

Sincerely,
