Dear Customer,
On August 9th, 2024, the Canada Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) issued its decision that none of the services provided by the railways are essential by law. As a result, no rail services are required to be maintained in the event of a work stoppage. The decision also includes a 13-day cooling off period during which no work stoppage is possible. Prior to any work stoppage, a 72-hour notice must be provided. The earliest possible date of a work stoppage is now August 22nd at 00:01 EST.
Please find links below to recent communications by the respective rail carriers.

TCRC Bargaining Updates (cpkcr.com)
CN has requested intervention of the Minister of Labour and seeks binding arbitration.
CPKC has advised that in the absence of a negotiated settlement or binding arbitration they will lock out employees on Aug. 22nd.
Both carriers will be working to effectively implement a safe and structured shutdown of their Canadian rail networks in preparation of a possible work stoppage.
We are continuing to monitor for further updates regarding terminal closures and cargo embargos in the days / week ahead.
Please note that any cargo caught in the rail network may be subject to delays in the event of a work stoppage.
Any charges applicable will be for the account of the cargo.
Please be guided accordingly.
We will continue to provide updates as new information is received.
Sincerely,
HENSALL GLOBAL LOGISTICS |
